We selected it to anchor the budget end of the guide with a brand most UK shoppers already know. Miracoil uses Silentnight's sprung support system rather than individually pocketed springs, which is why it appears in our budget and firm shortlists but not our pocket-sprung one.

At £327.99 for the entry size it is the lowest price in our shortlist, with the Aerotac memory foam the only mattress here that goes lower.

As a low-cost firm mattress from a familiar brand this does the job, but the value case narrows once you price the size you actually need.

For a main bedroom, spending around £150 more on the Emma Original buys pocket springs and foam comfort layers, which is a bigger step up than the price gap suggests. As a guest-room or short-term mattress, the Miracoil Ortho makes more sense.
